Hundreds of thousands of government workers return to work after President Trump lifted the government shutdown over the weekend.

Mr. Trump has lifted this shutdown for a three week period, giving Congress time to come up with ways to fund the multi billion dollar wall he is pushing for to separate the United States and Mexico.   Some 800,000 federal workers were affected by this shutdown, as well as thousands of government contract workers and their families.   The lifting of the shutdown will provide the government with full funding through February 15th, with none of the money going towards funding to construct the President’s  wall.

There was a reported loss of $11 billion in U.S. revenue during the shutdown. Among those who experienced the largest and most direct negative effects are federal workers who faced delayed compensation or no compensation and private sector workers who will never recoup their lost income.
