Middleton Junior Lauren Matthews takes the stage Sunday vying to become Tampa’s next Teen Idol.

Matthews is competing against about a dozen Hillsborough County school students for the coveted title.  The competition takes place 3p.m. Sunday at Jefferson High School with the winner receiving a $1,000 cash prize.

“I was told about it from my vocal coach,” Matthews says. “She’s a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.  The sorority is sponsoring the event.”  If the 17 year old wins the competition, she knows just how she will spend the cash prize.  “I will use the money to invest in my brother’s tee-shirt business, www.OnlytheBestDesigns.com and I will also put it towards my family’s natural hair and skin care line, www.Glow1ng.com.”
